Promotores de Salud

The promotores de salud (health promoters) model is La Clínica’s preferred educational outreach strategy. Aimed at improving long-term health outcomes among Latinos, promotores engage with members of the local community as health education leaders. Managed and trained by members of the CHA and Medical Case Management teams; the program has over 50 participants.

The promotores de salud program educates patients about medical conditions such as diabetes, cancer and HIV, as well as health and social issues like nutrition, fitness and domestic violence. This information is given through organized community events (i.e. health fairs), targeted group therapies (i.e. Club de Pacientes and Entre Amigas) and informal charlas (chats) in La Clínica’s waiting room.

In April 2011, La Clínica’s Executive Director was appointed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Promotores Steering Committee, a body of community leaders established to provide leadership and guidance on the development and implementation of a newly established National Initiative for Promotores de Salud.
