Heat Advisory

Wednesday, June 25: The D.C. area is under a heat advisory from 11 AM - 9 PM. Extreme heat can impact everyone, but certain groups are especially at risk: adults over 65, babies and young children, pregnant women, people who work outdoors, those without air conditioning, people experiencing homelessness, and pets.

Tips to stay safe:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Use sunscreen
  • Breastfeed babies frequently
  • Stay in cool, well-ventilated spaces
  • Avoid going outside during the hottest hours of the day (usually between 11 AM and 5 PM)

Without proper precautions, extreme heat can quickly lead to heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 right away.

Watch for symptoms like:

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle cramps
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth
  • Vomiting
  • Confusion or disorientation
  • Seizures
  • Delirium

Check in on your loved ones and neighbors, especially those who are elderly, live alone, or have health conditions. Stay safe everyone.
